(photographic reproduction of unfinished oil paintings, home setting)
the project stems from the millenial urge to start over, usually by changing locations, as a way of escaping oneself, in response to the fast paced era in which many things are left unfinished.
departing from a personal experience, that of starting things, but never finishing them, that of enjoying the idea, but not always getting to realize it, the project expands as a way of analyzing the consequences that social media has on us: that of exploiting our drive, that of leaving us in a constant state of perpetual desire, without accomplishing anything.
starting over again is always easier than working on it, or even better ending something.
given these factors, by merging three mediums – painting, installation and photography – “i’m thinking of starting things” is meant to explore indoor situations in the form of unfinished paintings which are eventually overlapped onto the setting they represent and which, furthermore, are documented and take the final form of a photograph. this process brings questions also regarding the definition of reproduction photography, or the way we interact with works of art online – always through an image of them, never in reality.
the project can also find related points to the space of postponing and/or not-finishing such as procrastination, fear of mistakes, fear of being judged, the feeling of not being good enough.
*the title is inspired from iain reid’s novel “i’m thinking of ending things”
